Openwork Viking wolf pendant inspired by 9th–10th century Scandinavian Borre style
Inspired by Viking-age bronze, as seen in the 2nd photo of this lot.
This wolf amulet is inspired by Viking Age animal ornamentation executed in the Borre style (circa 850–950 AD). The design reflects the characteristic gripping-beast composition, with tightly controlled interlace and a ring-framed openwork form typical of Scandinavian metalwork from this period.
Comparable wolf pendants and animal plaques in bronze and copper alloy are preserved in museum collections in Norway and Denmark, where they are interpreted as personal amulets or dress fittings rather than decorative folklore objects. The abstracted anatomy and symmetrical layout align closely with known archaeological examples.
Each pendant is carved by hand from natural bone or dark bull horn. The openwork structure keeps the piece light while preserving the strength of the form. Natural variation in tone and surface is part of the material and makes every pendant slightly different.
This amulet suits historical collections, reenactment use, or everyday wear for those interested in authentic Viking Age design.
