About the Design
The pendant is based on the wolf-warrior imagery found on the Torslunda Plates, a group of 7th-century metal plates from Öland, Sweden. One of the figures is shown wearing distinctive wolf-like headgear and is commonly associated with the Ulfheðnar, the wolf warriors of Norse tradition.
The Old Norse word Ulfheðinn refers to a wolfskin warrior. The plural is Ulfheðnar. They are mentioned in Old Norse sources alongside berserkers and are generally associated with warriors connected with the wolf.
Wolves were also important in Norse mythology. Odin was accompanied by Geri and Freki, while Fenrir is one of the best-known wolves in Norse myth.
This pendant brings together these historical and mythological wolf traditions in a simple piece of wearable metalwork.
