About the Design
The Valsgärde burial site in Sweden contains several high-status boat graves dating from the Vendel period (6th–8th century) and into the early Viking Age. Helmets recovered from these graves are characterised by segmented steel construction, decorative plates, and protective facial elements such as nasal guards and brow reinforcements.
These helmets were likely associated with elite warriors or regional leaders. Their construction combined practical protection with symbolic and artistic detailing, reflecting status as well as function.
This replica follows the general structural and decorative principles of those finds, presenting a historically informed interpretation suitable for educational, reenactment, and display purposes.
