Historical Thor’s Hammer inspired by Viking Age finds from Birka, Sweden
This pendant is inspired by an original Viking Age Thor’s hammer (Mjölnir) found in a chamber grave at Birka, Sweden, dated to c. 800–1100 AD. The original silver hammer, discovered in Grave Bj 750, represents personal devotional jewellery worn as a sign of belief, identity, and protection during the Viking Age.
Our replica follows the compact Birka hammer form and is finished with traditional hot enamel, adding depth and contrast while respecting historical aesthetics. The design reflects the type of pendants worn close to the body as part of daily dress.
Created as part of the LostRavn Fashion historical designs jewellery line, this piece is intended for modern wear while remaining visually faithful to documented Scandinavian archaeological finds.
Each pendant is hand-cast and individually finished, giving the surface a natural, slightly varied character typical of traditional casting. The piece feels solid and well-proportioned.
Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, was worn during the Viking Age as a sign of strength, loyalty to the old gods, and protection for the wearer.
