This rook is based on the well-known Berserker figures from the Lewis Chessmen, dated to the late 12th–early 13th century. The piece shows a standing warrior with sword and round shield, wearing a conical helmet, following the structure of the original finds.

Carved from naturally shed moose antler, the material gives a solid feel and allows for clear detailing. The form stays close to the proportions of the historical pieces, with a slightly simplified finish suited to hand carving.

Each rook is shaped by hand, so small tool marks and variations in tone remain visible. The surface keeps the natural character of antler, making each piece slightly different. Suitable as part of a full set or as a standalone display object.

Differences in colour, grain, and carving detail are expected due to the natural material and handmade process.

About the Design
The Lewis Chessmen were found on the Isle of Lewis in 1831 and are among the most recognised medieval chess pieces. The Berserker rooks are notable for their armed, standing figures, often interpreted as warrior guardians.
