This Odin statue is carved from linden wood, a traditional material valued for its smooth grain and warm surface. After carving, the figure is finished with linseed oil and wax, which deepens the tone of the wood and leaves a natural satin feel rather than a heavy varnished coating.

The figure includes carved runic details, including a runic alphabet and compass motif connected with Norse symbolic traditions. The carving style stays simple and restrained, closer to historical Scandinavian woodwork than modern fantasy sculpture.

Odin, also known as Wodan, Woden, or Wotan, was one of the principal gods of Norse mythology, associated with wisdom, poetry, healing, battle, death, sorcery, kingship, frenzy, and the runes. In the Hávamál and the Rúnatal, Odin is described as gaining knowledge of the runes through sacrifice on Yggdrasil, the world tree. Ravens, wolves, spears, and runic inscriptions are all closely linked with his imagery in surviving Norse literature and archaeological interpretation.

Historically, Odin was honoured through offerings, ritual gatherings, poetry, and acts connected with courage and knowledge. Many modern pagan and Heathen practitioners still place carved figures of Odin on home altars or ritual spaces today, alongside runes, candles, drinking horns, or offerings.

The statue sits comfortably on a shelf or altar and has a quiet presence in natural light. Over time, the waxed wood develops more depth and character through handling and age.
