About the Design
This sword follows the characteristics of Petersen Type X Viking swords, common during the late 10th and early 11th centuries. Type X swords are defined by their broad, evenly tapered double-edged blades with wide fullers and relatively simple crossguards and pommels.
The inscriptions “VLFBERH+T” and “DUNA + DUNA XX” reflect markings found on several early medieval blades. Such inscriptions are often associated with high-status weapons and specialist workshops, though their exact meaning remains debated.
The overall proportions, fuller length, and hilt form align with examples recovered across Northern and Central Europe during the late Viking Age, making this piece suitable for reenactment, study, or display.
