This pendant is inspired by The Ixworth Cross, an Anglo-Saxon artefact discovered in Suffolk during the 19th century. The original object formed part of an elite burial assemblage associated with a young woman from an early Christian noble environment.
The piece is cast in brass and individually finished by hand. Red and yellow enamel sections are arranged in a geometric mosaic pattern that recalls the appearance of early medieval jewellery set with coloured stones and glass. The warmer tones of brass work naturally with the enamel colours, giving the surface depth without excessive shine.
Each pendant is finished individually; slight differences in enamel pattern, tone, and surface marks are part of the making process.
About the Design
The Ixworth find is often noted for its combination of Christian symbolism and high-status decorative craftsmanship. Jewellery from this period frequently used coloured inlays and structured geometric layouts influenced by both local and continental traditions.
Care Instructions
Brass naturally changes tone over time and may darken with handling and air exposure.
To care for the pendant:
- Keep dry when possible
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, especially on enamel areas
- Polish brass gently with a soft cloth if desired
- Store separately to reduce surface scratches
