About the Design
The seax was a common blade type across Northern Europe during the early medieval period and is strongly associated with Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon cultures. By the 10th century, decorative styles such as Jelling influenced metalwork and object ornamentation throughout Viking territories.
This example follows the long-bladed seax form, characterised by a straight cutting edge and clipped or angled spine profile. The proportions reflect practical working and fighting knives of the period. The tapered blade thickness and point of balance support handling consistent with historical single-edged weapons.
