Loki and His Children – Trickster’s Legacy 🔥
Loki, the clever and chaotic god of mischief, was loved and feared in equal measure by the Aesir gods. Born of giants, but sworn brother to Odin, Loki was a shapeshifter, a schemer, and a storyteller.
But his greatest legends are not just about his pranks — they are about his children.
From the giantess Angrboda, Loki fathered three infamous beings:
- Fenrir, the monstrous wolf who would one day break free from the chains of the gods and devour Odin during Ragnarök.
- Jörmungandr, the world-serpent so massive he encircles Midgard — fated to slay and be slain by Thor in the final battle.
- Hel, the pale queen of the underworld, ruling over the dead who do not die in battle.
The gods feared these children, and for good reason. They cast Hel into the realm of shadows, chained Fenrir with a magical ribbon, and hurled Jörmungandr into the sea.
But fate cannot be outrun.
Loki, once a friend to the gods, turned against them. After causing the death of Baldr, he was bound in a cave with the entrails of his son and a serpent dripping venom over his face. His wife Sigyn stayed by his side, catching the poison in a bowl — but whenever she turned to empty it, the drops burned Loki’s skin, causing earthquakes.
At Ragnarök, Loki will break free, leading the forces of chaos against the gods. He will fight Heimdall, and they will slay each other in the end.
Thus ends the tale of Loki — not just a trickster, but a father of monsters, a bringer of endings, and a god destined to burn the world and be burned with it.
